World Without Males

Can you imagine a world without males? This is not sci-fi. For desert grassland whiptail lizards (Aspidoscelis uniparens) this is a reality. No males at all! All individuals are females and are genetically identical. They reproduce by parthenogenesis. Thanks god, we humans mix our genes and males won't get extinct in the near future ... I hope.

This is the Grassland Whiptail Lizard (Aspidoscelis Uniparens) in Toronto ZOO. A picture was taken in Summer 2007, and the drawing from the picture in Winter 2008.
